Sunday 21st Decmber

With the boat match being cancelled we had a beach match instead. 4 club members and 1 guest turned out and, after a bit of discussion, we decided to all fish together and headed off to Woodspring Priory. We agreed on a prize kitty of £10 a head biggest cod takes all. Dicky and Craig went the scenic route whilst my car went the M5 way. After a couple of stops and wrong turns Craig and Dicky finally met us on the mark some 30 mins after we got there!

100_0670First fish fell to our guest Martin Crowley a codling of around 1 3/4lbs quickly followed by Craig with a similar sized fish both were just under the 18 inch minimum size limit we had agreed to use and were returned.

Craig was quickly into another, slightly bigger, fish so things were looking promising. Next fish fell to Craig again, a lovely looking 3lbs 7oz codling which put him in pole position. Still no bites so far for me, Dad or Dicky!

As the tide turned things were quiet again for a short time and then I had my first and only bite! 10392437_1514651318785332_8621526377931255303_nAnother plump codling this one weighing 3lbs 10ozs giving me the lead.

Dad was next with another 2lbs plus fish leaving just Dicky to catch. The fish seemed to be coming through in little flurries and Dicky finally broke his duck with another nice fish over 2 1/2lbs. As the tide pushed us off the sand and back on to the rocks the amount of weed in the water was starting to cause problems so we called time on the match and started to pack up.

Martin had a green eel and another codling whilst packing up and Dicky had a codling on each of his last cast so the fish were still there and maybe on a less weedy day we could have stayed on and caught more fish. In the end though we had caught 10 codling between us and a green eel and all  had a fish for the table so happy days. My 3lbs 10ozs codling was the biggest fish on the day so took the money 😎
