As I write this there is a glimmer of hope that we will get to fish a competition this weekend. With 4 comps cancelled already this year we finally have a forecast that looks do-able.

The last month has again been challenging weather wise. There are still some good fish to be caught when boats have managed to get out, which to be fair seems to be on the increase.

Three boats got out at the end of Feb in not ideal conditions. 2 boats fished in the lee of Brean Down in calm waters and struggled whilst Ultra White and the Bristol boys stuck it out in the deeper water in a bit of slop and were rewarded with a fair few rays, straps and 3 codling to just over 7lb.

Ultra White and Seanies Flier were again out on the last set of big tides and found it hard going but managed to find a few fish including cod to 7lb 4oz for Nigel Devey.

On the same weekend myself and Stephen Saxby fished on the south coast from a Lyme Regis charter boat and had a tough day with only a few Pollack between us with Stephen catching our biggest at 11lb 9oz.

Fish of the month for February was won by Nigel Devey with a cod of 7lb 1oz.

April 17th is the Ray Farthing trophy and the only comp of the month.

Our Presentation Night is Friday, 22nd April and is to be held at Burnham-on-Sea Sailing Club more details to follow on our Facebook page and Website.

On the 1st May we will have another attempt to run our Presidents Cup.

You can keep up-to date with latest news and catches and all things fishy on our Facebook page.

3 clubs boats fished out of B-O-S this Sunday with mixed to poor results. As the conditions were not the best all three boats headed for the shelter offered by Brean Down.

Ultra White with Nigel Devey, Andy Georgiou & Martin Quinn were already fishing when myself, Dicky & Fred Saxby arrived on Four Buoys with Alex Wharton close behind us on Osprey. Ultra White was bobbing around fairish so we chose to tuck in more to lee of Brean Down, out of the wind and with Alex behind us.

Well we struggled all day on Four Buoys and Dicky lost our only fish when his leader knot parted as the fish neared the surface. We never saw it but we suspect it was a nice codling.

12805685_10206896312981096_542857984993202993_nAlex faired only slightly better with a small thornie around 6 1/2lbs. The Bristol Boys did catch more fish with rays, congers and a nice codling for Nigel of just over 7lbs.

I think the deeper water and more tide made the difference for the boys on Ultra White.

DSCN2972Probably the less said about the antics we had back at the beach the better for one club member, who to protect his good standing shall remain nameless, won’t he Richard Saxby.

Suffice to say we made the news in both Burnham on Sea.com and the Daily Mail on line.

It least I wasn’t driving…….this time!

A big thanks again to all the club members who came to our rescue or just came to take the mickey!!

Vicoue Trophy- Competition Secretary’s Report

It was great to finally get a comp on this year!
5 club boats with a total of 14 seniors and one junior fished the Vicoue trophy.

Conditions were a little breezy and very cold on the day but not bad enough to stop Burnham Boaters.
Some boats fared better than others but overall there were lots of fish caught with thornies, conger, cod and even a blonde ray.

1st place was Aaron Devey with a blonde ray of 17lb 8oz and 97%
2nd place was again Aaron Devey with a thornie 11lb 2oz and 72%
3rd place Terry Garrett with a thornie 10lb 2oz and 65%

The pools on the day was biggest cod and was won by Andy Georgiou with a cod of 7lb 10oz.
As Aaron is not a member of BBOSAA Terry Garrett is the winner of the Vicoue trophy.

A big thanks to Tracy for bangers and spuds afterwards back at the sailing club.
Well done all and hope to see you at the next comp, The Ray Farthing Trophy on the 17th April
