Fish of the month for February 2017

Sadly no fish of the month for February as nothing has been weighed in.

Seems like the weather has kept most boats on their driveways!

Lets hope the weather in March is kinder to us.

Not a lot to report for the the last month as the weather has scuppered most attempts at getting out.

The codling seem to have done a disappearing act but there are reports of a decent run of fish further up channel so hopefully they will drop down soon and spread into the bay.

Most boats are happy to venture further afield after good fishing but it is nice when you only have to go 4 or 5 miles to find a few plump cod.

Thornbacks still around but there is a distinct lack of doggies, not that anyone is comlaining about that!

March should see the start of the spring run and the first of the bass, which we have to return until 1st July.

Our Presidents cup was cancelled twice so we will try again in May.

A couple of members went “poaching” up Portishead for their cod comp on the 5th of Feb and out of 16 boats our chairman John May managed a creditable 5th place.

Friday the 17th saw Four Bouys out for a short one over high but found the fishing slow with just 9 thornies to just under 11lb.

Fish of the month sponsored by Thyers Tackle of Highbridge for January was won by Andy Georgiou with a whiting of 1lb 13 and 85%.

The next competition is the Wilf Dunstone Trophy on Sunday 26th March

Our next club meeting is on Thursday 16th March at Burnham Motor Boat and Sailing Club on the sea front, pop along if you are interested in joining a friendly club.

You can keep up-to date with latest news and catches and all things fishy on our facebook page Burnham Boat Owners Sea Angling Association and our website www.burnhamboats.co.uk
