FRED PETERS TROPHY - 7TH OCTOBER

Isn't it great to be back in Burnham with its fabulous golden sand and crystal clear waters, back to reality the mud was back, the boat was soon to be dirty and the water the colour of oxtail soup. Twelve boats turned up with twenty six anglers in total on what was a perfect morning weather wise, at least the forecasters had got it right this time. Boats out on the day were Ulta White, Halcyon, Nakita, Aurora, Seanies Flyer, Optima, Arlene, Vicou, Sean 1, Heron, Siskin & Highlander 2. The sea conditions were spot on with a very light wind forecast all day. As soon as the hooter went all boats disappeared over the horizon to their favourite marks. Well. the radios were ecceptionally quite all day aprt from a couple of boats who were not fishing the competition but their conversations must have amused everyone throughout the day. A quiet radio generally means one or two things, either its not working or everyone is busy catching fish. That was certainly the case on board Highlander 2, the fish just kept coming all day. Unfortunately none of them were in size, that was until a 2lb 6oz dogfish hung himself on the hooks and for the first time one of these little critters found himself in the fish box. If its good enough for the Heron boys to waeigh them in then its good enough for me! At long last it was good to see that no dogish that were weighed in took top prizes this time. I am glad that everyone read their fliers as we would be back on the beach an hour earlier than what was in the handbook. Many thanks for Simon who was back on his modified tractor with his heavy duty winch bolted on the front of it. Martin Quinn had also noted it as he was probably wondering when he can put it to good use. We ended up having to weigh in and do the raffle in the car park and by the sounds of things everybody had experienced the same sort of fishing with a few exceptions as can be seen from the results. Well done to the Big Julie once again.
