West Bay Sunday 28th May 2017

Three Burnham boats launched from West Bay on Sunday 28th May with the intentions of fishing the local wrecks.

On Four Buoys was myself and Richard Saxby, Lucky Strike with Craig Willis and Damian Close and on Obsession were Andy Georgiou and Nigel Devey.

We all struggled on the first wreck, Craig did catch a small bass on it.

So with Lucky Strike we moved on to try another four wrecks with similar results, with only a few pout caught on baits for all our hard efforts.

Andy and Nigel stayed on the first wreck for longer and Andy was rewarded with a nice bass around 8lb.

After failing on the wrecks we along with Craig had a few drifts for plaice. Dicky had two and Craig caught another as well as a ray and a dogfish.

The lads on Obsession had continued to try other wrecks but with no success so a difficult but enjoyable day for all.

Presidents Cup Report 21st May 2017

On Sunday 21st of May 2017 we held the Presidents Cup out of Burnham-on-Sea, five boats attended with a total of 13 anglers on board.

It was an early start with a 5am book in and off at 5:30am!

With hounds in mind most boats started fishing around Lilstock.

Ultra White with Nigel Devey and Andy Georgiou and Seanie’s Flier with Martin Quinn and Pete Watson had fish from the start catching plenty of rays, conger and dogfish.

They also managed to find some smoothounds as well.

On Ultra Mover with Chris Lindsay were Dave Teather and Alex wharton.

Fishing around Hinkley they were catching rays, dogfish eels and hounds.

On Four Buoys myself and Richard Saxby were joined by our guest Terry Hickman.

We started off on the club banks looking for a bass but failed.

So we decided to up anchor and head down to Blue Anchor bay in search of the smoothounds.

They weren’t there, it seems they had all gone on holiday!!

So we moved back to a bank around Hinkley and found them straight away, I caught one first cast.

Mark Bowden and Pete Nicholson on Vicoue had started at Lilstock and caught a few hounds with the usual rays, dogfish and congers.

They then moved on to the club bank and snared a bass each.

Pete’s weighed around 7lbs!

Pete also had a cracking smoothound which using the current formula weighed 23lb 4oz.

Back at the sailing the results were soon calculated and some fine fish were recorded.

1st place was Pete Nicholson with his 23lb 4oz hound for 150%.

2nd was Martin Quinn with another a hound of 22lb 10oz for 146%.

3rd was Chris Lindsay with a smoothound of 18lb 7oz for 119%.

The pools was for most species, Mark and Pete tied with 5 thornback rays, dogfish, conger eels, smoothounds and bass for both of them.
